A Level Field: Advocating for Equity in Early Childhood

With new federal funding and growing national support for quality early childhood programming, experts are now calling for a greater focus on “R.E.I.”: Race, Equity, and Inclusion. Lisa Klein, executive director of the Alliance for Early Success, discusses the importance of R.E.I. in early childhood, where researchers have found notable disparities between demographic groups arising as early as nine months of age.

Klein discusses effective approaches to building equity in early childhood systems, including workforce diversity and professional development, and calls on stakeholders to “act boldly” in pursuit of a more inclusive future. Part of the 2018 CPRE Knowledge Hub/NGA Interview Series, filmed at the 2018 Governors’ Education Policy Advisors Institute in Little Rock, AR.
